How to Create a Construction Timesheet
A Construction timesheet displays the duty roster of your construction employees. These may include morning, afternoon, evening, and open shifts. This simple timesheet can be used to determine the required number of work that he or she has to render. The days or work, undertime, and overtime work are also indicated. This will make it easier for the HR Department to compute for their compensation.
According to an article by Hub Staff, in the 50s, timesheets existed because of underpaid legal professionals. The dentists and doctors were earning bigger than them; so, the American Bar Association decided to measure their services through the number of hours worked. Hence, the timesheets.
If you want to create a timesheet yourself, here are steps:
1. Choose a Medium for Your Timesheet
First, choose a medium for your blank sheet. This may either be in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. These programs contain spreadsheets that make it easier for you to input digits. If you have another program preferred, then much better. Make sure that you are comfortable using that program and that you know your way around it.
2. Include Company Details
Since it is considered company property, remember to input the company details. These details are the company name, address, contact number, and email address. These should be placed on top of the sample sheet and center-aligned. You can also put the company name in a bigger font.
3. Include the Employee's Details
The employee's details include his or her name, position, department, and employee ID no. This will help the HR department determine the owner of the simple sheet. These details should be complete in essence to prevent confusion and misinformation.
Double-check the employee's details for possible errors.
4. Input the Employee's Schedule
Input the employee's schedule below the employee's details. The type of shift and the schedule period should be specified. The type of shift is either a morning, afternoon, night, or open shift. And the period is either a daily, weekly, or monthly.
The table should consist of the days of the week with the corresponding schedule, days off, hours per day, overtime, and undertime work. On the last row of the table, indicate the total of each column.
Tip: Make use of different font colors to highlight key points in the table or the basic sheet itself.
5. Provide Space for Signatures
The timesheet should have signatures of the one who prepared and approved it. It should also have a date of when it was signed. Provide the names of the concerned individuals and have them affix their signatures. The date should also be not forgotten.
6. Proofread the Timesheet
After completing the steps above, make it a habit to proofread. Always double-check the schedule and see if there are any errors. Submit the timesheet to your immediate head to let him review the document.
Once you have proofread the document, submit the timesheet to your immediate head for approval. If there are necessary corrections to be made, work on it immediately.
