How to Make a Management Flowchart in Apple Pages
From hazardous chemical storage to construction quality control, the humble flowchart can cover all sorts of different management procedures. After all, as explained in an article from Chron (a US-based publication), the flowchart is a versatile diagram used in practically every industry.
Are you working on your own management flowchart? If you’re wondering how to fully utilize Apple Pages for such a task, then considering reading the following tips.
1. Use a Page Layout Document for Your Management Flowchart
When making a management flowchart in Apple Pages, using a page layout document is important. With a page layout, using inserted objects is much easier.
Switch to page layout by going into the side toolbar’s Document menu (located on the right). Uncheck the Document Body option and you can now start working on your diagram!
2. Start with Your Management Flowchart’s Title
It’s important that you clarify the chart’s contents through the title. For this, you need the text box tool.
Click the Text icon (in the upper toolbar) and then place the text box at the top of your document by clicking or click-dragging on the area. While the new text box is highlighted, simply start typing to enter your title. Go with something descriptive—for example, there’s “Waste Management Process” and “Board Executive Tasks.”
3. Implement Universally Recognized Symbols in Your Management Flowchart
Every flowchart design uses a set of common symbols that each represents something within a workflow. Create these symbols in your chart through the Shape menu in the above toolbar.
The first symbol you need is the oval, representing the start (and end) of a flowchart. Next, you have rectangles for all the different tasks and actions. Meanwhile, parallelograms signify both inputs and outputs in your management process. Lastly, use diamonds for decision steps, which branch into separate paths.
Once a shape is added, type in a label by selecting it first. Resize it by click-dragging one of the handles on its sides. And repositioning is done by click-dragging the shape itself.
4. Take Advantage of Connection Lines in Your Management Flowchart
When it comes to directing your diagram’s flow, you need to add lines. So, select two adjacent shapes at once by CMD+clicking them. After that, go into Insert (at the top of Pages) and open the Line menu. Choose one of the Connection Lines, which gives the highlighted shapes a self-orienting line.
