What Is a School Timeline?
A school timeline is a chronological display of events that will occur throughout an entire school year. This is used by universities, colleges, or any learning institution to keep track of their planned events.
How to Design a School Timeline
Other than the usual classroom lectures, schools also have activities for the students and employees. These activities are then plotted on a timeline for tracking and reminding purposes. If you need help in making one for your school, refer to our guidelines and tips provided below.
1. Have a List of School Events Ready
Timelines are created to get a clear idea of how events look in a specific period. In order for you to make one effectively, you need to prepare a list of the school events. Write these down on a separate sheet of paper, and don’t worry about the dates for now.
2. Determine the Length of the Timeline
How long will your timeline be? And are you going to divide it into sections? For the second question, it’s best that you should. Since an entire school year is divided into quarters, you should do the same regardless of the length of your timeline. Use these sections as milestones to check if you’re on schedule.
3. Identify the Start and End of the Timeline
Like regular schedules and Gantt charts, timelines have a start and end. In a school setting, the starting point of your timeline will be the start of the school year. The ending point, on the other hand, is the start of the summer vacation.
4. Mark the Events and Specify the Dates
After laying out the timeline and identifying the start and end points, it’s time to start marking the events based on the list you prepared earlier. And under those events, make sure to also identify the dates. Only if necessary, you may specify the time as well, but it’s actually better without it.
5. Add Visual Enhancements to Your School Timeline
And just before you publish, print, or share your timeline with the whole school, don’t forget to add some visual enhancements to it. However, keep it subtle to prevent your audience’s attention to be diverted away from the diagram.
